Thankfully, this month’s reads were a lot better than in October…if you keep up with my book posts, then you know what I’m talking about, but if not, it was a rough month finding some good selections! And just finding books that balanced each other out. Sometimes, there is so much emotion involved in one story, that you need something light and easy to read next, and it just wasn’t happening!
I enjoy reading seasonal reads when I can, so when I saw “Winter in Paradise”, I thought it would be cute for this time of the year. I haven’t read many, if any, Elin Hilderbrand books, but I liked this one! It was an easy read, with just enough drama to not put you over the edge hehe, and also a little mystery involved too, which I always appreciate. When I woman gets notified that her husband has passed away in an accident while on a work trip, she travels down to St. John to discover that he has been living a double life. Her two sons accompany her to the island, and have their own issues and love stories going on, so it was interesting just to see what happened with all of them! I’m excited to read the next book!
I have read a few of Jojo Moyes’ books now, and I enjoyed “The Last Letter from Your Lover” too. I feel like she write a lot on issues that may be controversial, which was also the case in this novel. I don’t know why, but I went in thinking it was just going to be able another love story between two people separated by war or life, but boy was I wrong! A woman is in a car accident, and hits her head so hard that she can’t remember anything about her former life, including the fact that she was leaving her husband for her lover when she got in the car accident. The whole book is about the difficulties of her marriage, and whether she can find the man she truly wants to be with. It has a present day aspect to it as well, another story of a young woman having an affair with a married man, and the consequences that come from a relationship like that… it was interesting perspectives to read about for sure, and I can honestly say I liked the way the book ended, but there were times when I didn’t agree with decisions some of the characters were making!
When I was in a slump last month, my reader friend across the street recommended that I read “As You Wish,” and I was so glad I did! I LOVED reading about the background of “The Princess Bride” movie. It was so fun to get a “behind the scenes” kind of experience of the movie. In fact, I told Jacob we needed to watch the movie so I could fill him in on some different things that happened! I have so much more appreciate for the movie than I did before, and just so much love for the actors and the production they made!
I have read a few of Shari Lapena novels, and they never seem to disappoint. They have mystery and suspense to them, with a bearable intensity if that makes sense. I will say that I felt like “Someone We Know” had more language in it than her others, but I would have to go back and check my reviews to verify that! It was easy to skim over though, so I didn’t feel like it was constantly in my face the whole time, I can’t stand that haha! This story was about a neighborhood, where a woman mysteriously disappears. It is kind of a whodunnit novel, where she has had relationships with multiple people that imply motive, and everyone begins to kind of turn on each other. It’s one of those scenarios where everyone seems to have something to hide, and the least suspected is the guilty party.

You always read so eclectically!
The Last Letter From Your Lover sounds very much like What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarity. Have you read that one? I quite liked it, but haven’t loved any of her other books.
