It’s my birthday month! Not that that means anything regarding the books I read, I just like to make that announcement haha…
First up, I read “A Governess’s Guide to Passion and Peril,” and thought it was pretty cute! I like reading these 1800s romantic murder mystery genre’s here and there, is that even a genre?? Anyway, overall her books are cute, but not riveting I suppose. This one was the fourth in her series, about a governess who gets tangled up in solving a murder, while also trying to figure out her status in society.
I listened to “Your Money or Your Life” this month and thought it was great. A lot of good basic reminders regarding money, but also a lot of information if you are interested in living debt free and getting away from needing a salary in general.
I finished this series with “Destroy the Day” this month and enjoyed this as well, minus some of the political messaging she put in the conclusion. Prince Corrick is captured by Oren Crane, who is basically a brutal pirate hehe, and is trying desperately to be reunited with Tessa and save his kingdom. The main thing I couldn’t stand with this, is that they made the young King homosexual, and there was a whole part of the story line regarding that. I just struggle a lot with “young adult” authors making that lifestyle look appealing, or forcing it on young readers.
I really like Kristy Woodson Harvey, and enjoyed “The Summer of Songbirds” a lot. It was really cute, all about three best friends who met at summer camp years ago, figuring out a plan to help save the camp later on. Of course there is a romantic story line as well that is sweet.
I have read a bit of Carley Fortune, but “This Summer Will Be Different” was not one of my favorites from her. Lucy summers on PEI each year, and vows to stay away from her best friend’s brother, but each summer she just can’t. I don’t know, it just is weird to me to return to a relationship each year and not try to make a life out of it. By the end of this book, I was ready for it to be done!
I listened to “Remarkably Bright Creatures” this month and really enjoyed it! Listening to it was so fun too because the of octopus voice narration! Tova begins working at the aquarium at night cleaning, and makes the acquaintance of Marcellus, the giant Pacific octopus. Marcellus is very observant, and notices more than people give him credit for. In fact, he notices so much, that he helps solve the mystery of what happened to Tova’s missing son. I thought this one was well done.
