Well apparently selling your house and moving into a new one will put you WAY behind on blogging haha! I realized today it is DECEMBER and I haven’t reviewed books since July! Good grief! Hopefully I can get caught up haha! Story of my life, right?
“The Rose Code” was one of the best books I’ve read this year. I probably would put it in my top five! I loved the historical aspect of this novel but I also loved reading about the women involved and the part they played in helping win WW2. I loved how the novel focused on the lives of three women in particular and their relationships with each other…how they lived together and helped each other through different parts of their lives. They endured so many hardships over these years and in the end, their alliance to each other saved them in the end. The cryptography involved was so interesting to read about too, the machinery they used but also how much they did with plain paper and pencil, it was incredible! After reading this, I was ready to fly to London and check out Bletcher Park as soon as I could haha! A well written story for sure, one that had so many things going on it never lost my interest.
I read “The Queen’s Secret” right after “The Rose Code,” and it was the perfect segue-way. A little slow getting started, it was so interesting to read about the Queen during WW2. In “The Rose Code,” there were so many mentions of her, I loved reading more of her role during the way and her life during that time. I felt like I understood many references the book read because of “The Rose Code” as well. Not quite as exciting, but definitely a good read if you are interested in that time period and Europe during the war!
“The Upside of Falling” was a really cute book…total chick lit, easy to read, everything works out kind of book. After reading two pretty heavy historical fiction books, this was a nice change of pace this month. Becca hasn’t believed in true love for years, and when her friend teases her about not dating anyone, she pegs the first guy that walks by and says they have been going out. Brett hears about her lie and decides to play along, the “meaningful” relationship also helping him out with some image issues. At some point their fake relationship starts to be hard to define where the fake part ends and maybe something more is going on. They help each other out with personal things going on in their family lives and seem to be a better match for each other than they originally would have thought.
“Golden Girl” was probably my least favorite read this month, I can’t decide if I am an Elin Hilderbrand fan or not. This book opened with a mom of three grown kids getting killed in a hit and run, which was so tragic, but then she goes to an in between space and gets to watch over her kids for a period of time. She has “nudges” to help them out in certain situations, so it was just a little weird to me reading about this kind of make believe spiritual realm. I did enjoy reading parts of the book, it wasn’t very long and easy to get through, it was just strange at times.
I felt like this described me perfectly haha… I have SUCH a long list of books I want to read and just never enough time to get through as many as I would like! Hope you enjoyed the reads this month, check out the links below if you are interested in previous months this year!
