Our third day was one of my favorite days of our trip. Today we drove over to the Cabrillo Tide Pools, saw the Point Loma lighthouse, Cabrillo monument and Fort Rosecran’s National Cemetery. Being a former middle school Science teacher, I’ll warn you now that there are a ton of rock formation pictures of the coast, and I’m not apologizing for it haha!
We are loving our slow mornings, eating breakfast, drinking coffee, playing outside and reading. ๐
Work call on the way to the tide pools? Of course. Boo.
The drive up the the tide pools was beautiful! I checked on their website for the best day to come and the best time to come. Since there are two high tides and two low tides a day, you kind of needed to look at their tidal charts to see what time you could actually walk around. The week we were there wasn’t the greatest, the tides weren’t low as they could be, but we were still able to see a lot of neat stuff!
There’s not a ton of parking at this place, so it’s best to go on the earlier side of the low tide window. There are bathrooms available in case you might be going and need one. ๐
We made it! Walking/running down hehe. I got the boys water shoes and they definitely came in handy today! It was good to have rubber grips on the bottom for when we walked around on the slippery rocks. I’ll never forget when Jacob slipped and fell and lost his Aggie ring here years ago. Amazingly, someone found it, looked him up on Facebook and mailed it back to us! We seriously thought it was gone forever!
This place is gorgeous. I could have stayed here all day.
It amazes me that the movement water made this. God is so cool.
I love adventuring with these brothers. ๐
All day. Just leave me here and come back for me later hehe!
It was just so beautiful and peaceful here.
Rock formations like this are just always so interesting to me, like what was the water or wind doing to make it become shaped like this?
We were able to walk down the coast one way, and then turn around and go back to go down to the tidal pools. There were other trails to do too but we just didn’t have the time to do it all.
This is on the other side, you can see that the water is still pretty far in, but at least it was shallow enough to walk around in!
Little crabbie friends peaking out!
Pretty sea anemones!
Jenson wasn’t quite as enamored by everything as we were haha!
Jude was so excited to be getting into the Pacific Ocean for the first time!
When you’ve had enough of the tide pools and just need a moment haha…
I thought these rocks were so pretty! So many different colors. ๐
I’m pretty sure this lobster was dead haha… but the boys thought it was cool to look at anyway!
I just love my little family!
The sweetest brothers. ๐
Love this travel buddy of mine!
We drove back up to the Cabrillo visitors center to look around at the monument and views.
We saw the monument of the explorer who discovered this area in the 16th century, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo.
And then walked up the trail to the Point Loma Lighthouse.
They have a little museum portion so you can see how the lights and lenses work, history about the lighthouse…
and then you could walk up the stairs in the actual lighthouse to see where the family lived and the light at the top.
There were living areas around the stairs on the way to the top.
A beautiful view at the top!
On our way back down into town, we drove by Fort Rosecran’s National cemetery. We wanted to get out and walk around but we were running short on time because everyone was hungry! It was so moving to drive by and see the thousands of graves of men and women who gave their life for our freedom…the boys couldn’t believe it. It was on both sides of the road and just went on and on and on….
When in California, you must visit In and Out Burger! ๐ (See, no screens, and they’re totally fine hehe!)
YUM.
We spotted a Menchie’s on the way to lunch, so of course we needed to stop by for some dessert!
Played a bit of connect four too. ๐
And then once we were back at the resort, we hit the pool! It was pretty chilly, but thankfully the pool was heated!
Love this sweetie pie boy of mine. ๐
The pool area was really nice!
The worst part was getting out and freezing haha!
After we ate some dinner, we went back to the beach area and watched the sun set.
I could watch this scene of them playing by the water with the sun going down for the rest of my life. I love seeing them together.
So pretty!
