We love natural history museums, I think just me being a former science teacher and with our boys’ interests, we always seem to land at places like this when we travel. They love dinosaur exhibits, and they love science related exhibits, so with the outdoor tree walk area, this place really hit it out of the park for us!
I had read some reviews about the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and the reviews were all very good. It was also included with our CityPass, and it did not disappoint, it was one of our favorite days. This is one of most beautiful museums we have been to, and there were SO many different cool sections to it. It was in the middle of a neighborhood, so we also really enjoyed driving through the surrounding neighborhoods and seeing the old homes in the area.
Parking is crazy here haha…people were parking all along the road up to the museum, but we went ahead and drove up into the parking lot. Someone was actually leaving when we got there, so we were able to get a spot! If you saw a spot close by on the road, I would say take it though, because the parking here was kind of rough! That was really our only “kind of” complaint, it was a really cool place to visit and we wished we had had more time here!
Some big dinosaur tushie for you! Haha, after we took the picture I was like Jacob, it’s like the dinosaur is about to poop on us or something…clearly I spend way too much time with little boys who like to talk about poop and tooting all the time haha…
Had to get a picture in front of the building!
Can you believe the inside of this thing? So cool!
They had a number of T-Rex things set up in the main area for a special event that day. Some of it was crafty kind of things, there was a person in a t-rex costume walking around hehe, it was fun!
We started outside, to get that part done while it was a little cooler in the morning before lunch. The forest area was beautiful. My pictures really do not do it justice! The boardwalks were so neat, the trees were so majestic and tall, it was just peaceful and serene out here.
They had different walk ways for different ages, Jackson went with Jacob at one point to do some different rope walk kind of things to crawl through.
We loved the section off to the side that had games for the boys to play!
Just love them so much!
This was the perfect place for little boys to just go exploring, we could have easily spent all day just outside.
They had a cute playscape for younger kids, this was the water works section!
This was a little playground portion.
Back inside, we had lunch at their little cafe, and checked out the T-Rex exhibits! Funny story, the electricity went out right before we decided to go eat. Not really so funny when you have three hungry kids haha…thankfully within 15-20 minutes it came back on and we were able to get some pizza and a yummy chicken salad sandwich!
They just barely squeezed this big guy in here haha…
Creepy velociraptors anyone? There were also some cool interactive things to look at like seeing how hard your “bite” was compared to a dinosaurs!
The cool part about the electricity going out, was that this place cleared out and it was not crowded at all that afternoon!
There was also a play area that had different ecosystem sections! The boys loved it here and played for a long time!
On to the physics force and motion lab! We LOVED this section! So many cool things to try out!
You could even design your own airplane and launch it into this area!
This one you could send different objects flying up to the ceiling hehe!
Pulley systems! Such a cool way to see how more pulleys means less work for you to do to pull yourself up!
They had a natural history section to walk through too, and of course Jude found a fox haha! He seems to be able to find them every where he goes!
There was also a dinosaur sculpture kind of exhibit, with lots of dinos to look at!
Ok, got a shot on the other side this time haha! Much better!
We grabbed dinner and then the boys were begging to go swimming a little bit in the hotel pool!
Proof of mom shot hehe!
