What I’m Reading – December 2019

This month was BUSY. I managed to squeeze in the rest of the Winter Street series, but it was tough to find time to read this month with all of the holiday preparation and celebration, and my oldest got the flu so we were dealing with that for a solid seven days! Poor baby felt so bad!

I wanted to share a screenshot of my Goodreads summary for the year! Friends, I am SO proud of my reading challenge goals this year, I was hoping to read 55 books and somehow ended up hitting 63! A few years ago, I decided I wanted to read more. Watch less TV, spend less time scrolling on social media, and really just get into the habit of picking up a book any time a had a few minutes to spare. My kindle paper white and kindle app on my phone made this a lot easier, but it’s just so empowering to see your hard work hit those goals you set for yourself. If you are someone wanting to read more, then do it! Get those habits started and enjoy what comes from it! I love the perspective and thoughts that reading brings, and just feel like it is just good for the soul. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and checking out my reading posts this year, I can’t wait to see what 2020 brings!

The next three books of theWinter Street Series kind of ran together for me, it was hard for me to remember when certain drama started and stopped when I came back to review them haha! Again, these were easy reads, which is what my tired mama brain needed during the holiday season hehe! I will say, the story ended in such a sad way considering how these books were so centered around the holidays. I really wasn’t fond of the way she chose to close everything up at the end, but I know realistically people are dealing with losing someone around the holidays as well. I don’t know that I would recommend these to anyone really struggling or down in any way, if that makes sense, just wanted to put that out there.

My last book of 2019…I really enjoyed “The Dressmaker’s Gift,” it was a sweet tribute to the relationships we have between family generations and what we can learn from prior generations’ experiences. This was a story of three dressmakers who lived and worked in Paris during the war, a story of friendship and survival and the roles these three women played during the war. What I loved about this book was that it intertwined the womens’ stories with the current life of one of their granddaughters, and how she moved to Paris for a job in fashion, only to learn about her history and find herself through their story.

Thank you again for supporting me here in this space, I hope I have encouraged to grab a book at some point during this year!
