What I’m Reading – December 2024

I cannot believe my year of 2024 reading is coming to an end! Y’all, I got on the biggest holiday rom com kick, and literally packed them in this month. I was also HIGHLY motivated to hit 100 books this year, which I did, and am so stinkin’ proud of!!!! I’ll be doing a Year Review post after this, so stay tuned!

I loved “It’s the Most Wonderful Crime of the Year!” I actually think I will plan on rereading this again in December 2025! It was so cute, the best balance of mystery and romance, I loved every minute! Two big time rival authors are invited to a writers’ gathering at a famous author’s home in the middle of the English countryside at her estate. She mysteriously disappears, and it is up to them to find her.

“We Met in December” was probably my least favorite read of the month. Jess moves in with a few roommates, following her dream to move to London. She sets her sights on one of the new roommates, but after she leaves for a couple of weeks, she gets back and finds that he has gotten together with another roommate. Then literally the entire book is her overthinking the situation, and no resolution comes until the very last page of the book. I couldn’t handle it haha….Like bam done. Anyway, it was ok, just not my favorite!

I loved “Cabin Mate” by Leah Brunner! It was really cute, and based in Vermont, so I enjoyed that since we just went there in October! Best friends, pretending to date for a friend’s wedding, turn into more than just best friends. I enjoyed this one so much that I looked up other books by this author!

I listened to “The Christmas Crush,” and overall it was a cute read. It was a little bit cheesy at times, involved a big cookie competition, but it fit the rom-com holiday bill. 🙂

“A Royal Christmas Wedding” was lower on my ratings list this month too. Avery comes back to the royal palace to celebrate her sister’s pregnancy. She hasn’t been back since the Prince broke her heart. But here’s to reunions and second chances, you can probably guess how this one will end up!

“Elves, Evergreens and Evidence” was cute but sooo corny haha….I was desperate in this moment I think to find another book to listen to, and this one was available so I went for it. Simple little holiday mystery, but don’t get your hopes up for this one!

“All I want for Christmas” was a little high school romance but it was cute. Bailey is obsessed with Christmas, loves every thing about it, and this is year is looking for her Christmas wish to come true. 🙂

“Meddling with Mistletoe” was cute, Whitney is working as a sitter and cooking at an inn to try and pay her way through culinary school. One of the guest’s nephew seems to be perpetually single, but maybe Whitney can change that. 🙂

“Holiday Hideaway” was also cute, short, funny and sweet! Tilly is recently divorced, and short on funds, so she is squatting on a rental property her agency manages until her new home is ready. The owner shows up earlier than planned to work on the property, forcing Tilly to run up to the attic, trapped. George keeps hearing noises, noticing things like food missing, and can’t figure out what is going on. Eventually, they run into each other, and you can only imagine how that plays out haha…

I loved “The Holiday Swap.” Identical twin sisters, switch lives when one gets a concussion and can’t continue working on her cooking show. She moves back home to run the family bakery, and both of them end up having love interests, who think they are each other… haha…not confusing at all! This was one of my favorites this month!

“Meet Me in London” was cute…Victoria has dreams of opening her own store in Chelsea, but her ex destroys her opportunity to do so. She runs into Oliver, who is opening a huge department store in the same neighborhood. Oliver needs a pretend girlfriend for family gatherings, and she needs an a chance to show and sell her designs. Will this chance meeting might solve both of their problems? Or will it cause more?

In “The Christmas Tree Farm,” Madison moves back home from teaching over seas to help her sister run the family’s Christmas tree farm. After fires and neglect, the farm isn’t in great shape. Old high school love flares up again, and Madison puts everything she has into saving her family’s farm.

“What Happens at Christmas” was ok…Holly’s father passes away and leaves her his cottage and dog, which happens to be next door to a gorgeous writer. Not a 4-5 star book, but cute enough.

“Later on We’ll Conspire” was cute too, Lacee runs into Park, thinking she might have a little holiday romance, but he turns out to be a spy. She gets a lot more than she bargained for, it was a fun holiday rom com with a twist for sure!

I listened to “Faking Christmas” and liked it! Laurel works for a magazine/website company writing blurbs about her farm, that actually isn’t her farm, but is her twin sister’s farm. Then, her boss ends up stranded at their family gathering, so she has to pretend with her sister’s friend, Max, who is her nemesis, to be her twin sister and pretend to own the farm and the children and know what she’s doing. Not confusing at all, and will totally work out just fine. 😉

At some point, these rom-coms all kind of start sounding the same haha…and yes, I read two books back to back with the same title! I think people are running out of ideas! “Faking Christmas” was another “fake date” my co-worker who I hate for a family holiday gathering, and it turns into being completely not what she expected. I liked this one a lot!

Whew! That’s December for you!! I know some people may hate this post but I’m obsessed with it. I love reading holiday books throughout the month of December so much! My year review post will soon follow!
