What I’m Reading – September 2024

I love getting into the Fall and reading more mysteries and thrillers, but you better believe I will throw in a rom com palette cleanser in there too. 😉

Mixed feelings on “Kingdom of the Wicked,” but mainly just thinking that it wasn’t quite there. A story about twin witch sisters who live amongst humans, one sister is brutally murdered, and the other decides to set out to find her killer. She comes across different princes of Hell, each one offering different things, making it hard to see who is really on her side. It was just kind of all over the place, and I have no desire to continue this series. So interesting, but definitely wasn’t my favorite.

See? Palette cleanser hehe. Love my girl Sarah Adams, “The Cheat Sheet” did not disappoint. Loved reading about Bree and her bestie NFL player, Nathan, and how they finally figure out what is between them. 😉

I listened to “Why We Sleep” and honestly, this book just about put me to sleep haha. A lot of interesting information about sleep, but goodness this book was looonnnggg. I felt like the most applicable information too, was at the very end of the book. Maybe skip to the end and call it a day on this one.

“The Heiress” was good. The McTavish family is rich, and when Ruby passes away, everything she has is passed down to her adopted son, who wants nothing to do with it. Camden is forced to come home with his wife and try to figure out how to handle his inheritance and the other remaining family members. There is a long ago story where Ruby was kidnapped, and then found that is also influencing the whole situation. Everything is kind of a mess, but an interesting one. 😉 I do remember thinking there was a lot of language in this one.

I do enjoy Katherine Center, and just lover “The Rom-Commers” . Emma has given up dreams of being a screen writer to take care of her father, but when she gets an opportunity to write with the famous Charlie Yates, her sister steps in so she can leave and move in with him to write the best rom-com anyone has ever seen. They both have a lot of personal baggage, but even so, a relationship begins to form. 😉

“Natural Selection” was a super short read, and honestly strange haha. I like Elin Hilderbrand, but this one was just weird to me, not to mention obvious what was going on. Sophia is set to go on a romantic getaway with her boyfriend, but he leaves her to do it alone at the last minute. She decides to go ahead and go on this “cruise” to the Galapagos Islands (haha…), and gets to know the other people on her cruise pretty well. The time gives her a chance to figure out more of who she is, and also what was really going on with her boyfriend.

I am also a Shari Lapena fan, I feel like she writes pretty good psychological thrillers. “What Have You Done?” was good, and also based in Vermont, which is where we are headed in October haha! I kept wondering if I should be reading a story about a young girl mysteriously murdered and left in a field…Diana was seemingly perfect, who would have anything against her? Everyone becomes a suspect, I think I had this one figured out by the end, but it was still a good read.
