I have a few books to share with you this month, one of the books that I finished this month was the last book of the Court series by Sarah J. Maas, so I included it on my January – March book post in case you are interested in reading my thoughts about her!
Even though we have had this crazy quarantine going on this year, I really haven’t had as much time to read it seems, these boys have kept me hopping haha! Either that or I just can’t seem to focus and read like I normally do. It’s like my mind can’t stop jumping around thinking about the next thing I need to do with the boys. At any rate, here’s what I read this month!
I was talking with my cousin’s wife, Ashley, as she and I are always sharing what we are reading…and she recommended “Ghosted” to me. She said that she loves to grab a book or magazine at the airport before they go on flights, and this one was her pick on their last trip! I really liked this book! There were points during the read where I didn’t think I liked where the story was going, but then her twists just made the whole story amazing. It was sad, it was full of trouble and despair at times, but it came full circle in the end. The story followed a girl, who met a boy and it was love at first sight, however there was a fateful connection in their history that threatened to destroy their chances of being together. Really interesting, and I don’t want to say much more than that and spoil it for you!
I read the first two books in the Caraval Series last year, and I really enjoyed them! In fact, I loved the first one! I was curious as to how the author was going to tie up the story, so once the “Finale” came out, I put a hold on it. I have to say, I’m not sure if it was because so much time had elapsed between reading the first two books and the third, but I had a haaarrdd time getting through this one. Most of the story came back to me, but it was a struggle. A lot of it felt forced, way too much talking and overthinking things. I kept feeling like this book could have been a lot shorter than what it was, but in the end I felt like things tied up well between the characters. If you’re curious about this series, I reviewed the first book here and the second book here!
“Paris for One” was a consequence of me getting caught up in Sarah Mass earlier this year and ALL of my holds falling to the wayside hahaha…I had to go back and put second holds on things that got passed over, and then had the hardest time finding something available to read! This book was a super short read, but it was good! The first story is the longest, and then there are other quick quirky short stories behind it, little stories that weren’t always what you thought they were. “Paris for One” basically explains the book, Nell has booked a weekend trip to Paris for her and her boyfriend, but of course he stands her up. Since she is already there, she enjoys herself and gets to know the city. Of course she meets someone, but I will let you read the book to find out how it ends. I love books that tie up cute at the end, this one did not disappoint.
I also enjoyed “Lovely War,” there were parts that were a little slow, and I think the part that really threw me was that the story was told from the viewpoint of Aphrodite and other Greek gods… but I appreciated what the author did with the stories of the characters, and the information she shared about the First World War. I haven’t read much about WWI, so I felt like this broadened my horizons a bit. There are four main characters, Hazel and James and their story, and then Aubrey and Collette and their story, and then how those stories intersect. There is a lot of history here on African Americans and their role during WWI, and then how they were received coming home, and then a lot about accepting each other as we are and the beauty we hold inside.
A few different kinds of genre here in this post, hopefully something for everyone! If you’re interested in my other reviews so far this year, check out the links below!
