Well how often does this happen?!?! FANCY DATE NIGHT!!! Whoo hoo!! I’m going to start off by just saying THANK YOU to my sweet parents for watching our little hooligans and putting them to bed so that we could have a SUPA fancy night out!
Y’all. I love the symphony. And I love Mahler. And I love my hubby. It’s going to be a good night!
We started off the evening by running by HEB for parking cash…romantic, huh? Nothing like walking into HEB in a fancy dress and everyone looking at you like, well what are you doing here?!?
We headed over to the Hearsay Gastro Lounge for dinner and it was so delish! Great atmosphere and really tasty food!
After dinner, we walked over to the Honeymoon Cafe for coffee and dessert! Great lattes and y’all… really tasty beignets! They rival New Orleans!
After coffee and dessert, we walked to our car and moved it a little closer to Jones Hall, and then went and grabbed our tickets at will call!
So there were a couple of guest composers at the concert tonight, and their two new pieces were opening to Mahler Symphony No. 1. We settled in to listen to the new pieces, the first one being a “spooky” piece…and all of a sudden the fire alarm goes off. Yes. The fire alarm. So here we are, the conductor cuts the symphony and kind of looks around like well what next?? He cracks some jokes about it, (he was pretty funny actually hah) and then after a few minutes we are told that we all have to get up and leave the concert hall until the figure out what was going on. Now, I try not to be one of those crazy hysterical people, but I’m not gonna lie… this whole scene made me a tad nervous and I was definitely trying to decide if I could smell smoke. Because we were up in the balcony I tell you and it was a packed house.
Thankfully, after about 10-15 minutes in the lobby (and Jacob and I laughing at the number of people who sat down and bought food – really like meals haha…), we all went back in for the concert to continue. Apparently it had been an accident and was a false alarm. Whew! Definitely thankful for that, because this momma does not get many nights out like this!
The concert turned out to be one of the best I’ve been to, the symphony was absolutely fantastic, and Mahler is a very exhausting to perform if you ask me! Long, energetic and not a lot of down time for the brass players! They seriously looked like they were about to fall over by the end of it haha… but that is why he is my favorite composer, because I never get bored listening to his symphonies. They are truly amazing! And I may possibly be biased, because he always has amazing horn parts that are just crazy impressive, so being a former horn player, it’s definitely a possibility that I am a little focused on that haha…
Hope you enjoyed a peak into our fun night together!
